1. Introductory provisions
These Rental Rules govern the rental of e-bikes and accessories within the KOLO-BOX service.
The identification details of the KOLO-BOX service operator are set out in the General Terms and Conditions (GTC), which are available on the operator’s website.
By submitting a reservation, the customer confirms that they have read these Rental Rules, understand them and agree to them.
2. Who may rent an e-bike
An e-bike may be rented by a natural person over 18 years of age who has legal capacity.
The operator reserves the right to verify compliance with these conditions when the bicycle is handed over.
The maximum permitted rider weight for use of an e-bike is 110 kg. Exceeding this weight is considered use contrary to the rental conditions.
3. Methods of renting a bicycle
Depending on the specific pickup location, KOLO-BOX offers two methods of renting a bicycle:
a) Personal rental
- personal collection of the bicycle
- personal return of the bicycle at the pickup location
b) Self-service rental (KOLO-BOX)
- self-service collection of the bicycle
- self-service return of the bicycle to the KOLO-BOX
The selected rental method is always stated in the reservation summary and confirmed by e-mail.
The rental methods cannot be combined. The bicycle must be returned in the same manner in which it was collected.
4. Payment method
- Payments are made in advance by bank transfer to the account specified in the e-mail communication.
- Payments are matched using the reservation number.
- The rental is not valid until payment has been confirmed.
5. Rental period
The bicycle is rented for the period corresponding to the operating (opening) hours of the specific pickup location stated in the reservation.
The customer must return the bicycle no later than at the specified time.
Late return may be regarded as a breach of the rental conditions and may result in the customer being held liable for damage or additional costs, particularly if a subsequent rental of the bicycle is restricted.
6. Handover of the bicycle
When taking over the bicycle, the customer must:
- check its condition
- familiarise themselves with its basic operation
The bicycle is handed over in a condition suitable for use on public roads.
In the case of personal rental, the handover may include a check of identity documents and a brief instruction.
7. Use of the bicycle
The customer must:
- use the bicycle carefully and in accordance with its intended purpose
- take care of their own safety and the safety of other persons
- use the bicycle in accordance with the laws of the Czech Republic
8. Technical defects, accidents and theft
Technical defect
In the event of any technical or other problem with the bicycle, the customer must immediately contact KOLO-BOX and follow its instructions.
The customer must refrain from further riding if continuing could worsen the condition of the bicycle or cause further damage.
Accident or theft
In the event of an accident, damage to the bicycle by a third party or theft of the bicycle, the customer must:
- immediately contact the Police of the Czech Republic,
- subsequently inform KOLO-BOX,
- provide the operator with the cooperation required to resolve the loss event.
9. Service kit
The customer may voluntarily order a service kit free of charge. The kit contains:
- a spare inner tube
- a puncture repair kit
- tyre levers
- a pump
Conditions of use
- if the customer does not use the service kit, they must return it
- if the customer uses the service kit, they pay only for the material consumed in accordance with the operator’s current price list published on the website
The service kit may only be used after KOLO-BOX has been contacted by telephone in advance.
The price of the material used will be deducted from the refundable deposit.
The price of material used from the service kit means its normal market price corresponding to the customary price at the relevant place and time.
The service kit is intended solely for the emergency resolution of a technical problem and does not replace professional servicing.
10. Self-service return of the bicycle
When returning a bicycle to the KOLO-BOX by self-service, the customer must:
- place the bicycle in the correctly marked rack designated for that bicycle
- lock the bicycle with the lock used to unlock it on collection
- connect the bicycle to the charger
- check that the door or gate of the box is actually locked
The KOLO-BOX area is monitored by a camera system for the protection of property and the recordings may be used as evidence.
11. Photographic documentation
The customer may voluntarily take photographs of the bicycle when returning it using the KOLO-BOX fotoUploader application.
A link to the application is provided in the e-mail “Rental instructions and payment confirmation”.
Photographic documentation is not mandatory and serves as supplementary evidence of the correct return of the bicycle.
12. Deposit
A refundable deposit is included in the order price.
- the deposit is always returned unless it is used in accordance with these Rental Rules
- the deposit is not forfeited if the reservation is cancelled or expires, or due to adverse weather
- the deposit may be used exclusively to pay for damage to the bicycle or accessories and to pay for consumed service materials
The deposit does not limit liability for damage.
13. Liability for damage
The bicycles are not insured.
The customer is fully liable for loss, theft or damage to the bicycle, including amounts exceeding the refundable deposit, demonstrably incurred damage and any loss of profit arising in direct connection with a breach of the customer’s obligations.
14. Refund due to adverse weather
KOLO-BOX refunds the amount paid if, on the rental date, adverse weather occurs that fundamentally prevents the safe use of the bicycle.
Adverse weather includes in particular:
- heavy or continuous rain
- strong wind (approximately 10 m/s or more)
- thunderstorms, hail, snow, ice or other dangerous meteorological phenomena
The decisive basis is an official record, in particular data from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute for the location of the pickup point and the rental time.
In this case, the customer must cancel the reservation in writing by e-mail to KOLO-BOX before collecting the bicycle or before the rental begins.
No refund is due if the customer has already taken over the bicycle.
15. Refunds
If the bicycle is returned in proper condition, KOLO-BOX shall return the relevant amounts paid (excluding the refundable deposit dealt with in Article 11) no later than within 7 working days in accordance with these Rental Rules and the GTC.
If damage to the bicycle is being resolved, the period is extended by the time strictly necessary to settle the damage.
16. Final provisions
These Rental Rules form an integral part of the contractual relationship between the customer and the KOLO-BOX service operator.
These Rental Rules are valid and effective from 1 January 2026.
